Like many Singaporeans, I have my own curated list of what I deem to be “the best” places to eat at that I add to or prune with each successive trip. I’ve received multiple requests to share my recommendations, and before I do so, I want to emphasise that this is a highly subjective list. Rather than saying that these are the absolute best versions of local dishes that you can find, all I can say is that these are my go-tos. Below are more than 60 recommendations for hawker food, between-meal nibbles, restaurants / eateries specialising in local fare, air-conditioned options, food souvenirs, and places to spend time at for foodies.
[Hawker Food]
Hawker food is perhaps what Singapore is most known for. Most of my recommendations are located in hawker centres — the hallowed food halls that are open throughout the day. These operate via cash or PayNow (the local version of a quick bank transfer) and offer some of the cheapest eats in the country.
